Bridging Islands Through IP: Introducing The Caribbean IP Annual 2025

With great pride and anticipation, we unveil the inaugural edition of The Caribbean IP Annual 2025—a first-of-its-kind publication dedicated to celebrating intellectual property (IP) excellence across the Caribbean. This new publication marks a pivotal step in amplifying regional voices, harmonising knowledge, and forging deeper connections between Caribbean jurisdictions and the global IP community.

At the heart of this initiative is a commitment to spotlighting the unique challenges and transformative opportunities faced by IP professionals, innovators, and policymakers throughout the Caribbean. Building on the momentum of our flagship publications—The Global IP Matrix and The Women’s IP World Annual—this edition emerges as a natural extension of our ongoing mission: to create meaningful visibility for underserved regions in the global IP discourse. The launch of The Caribbean IP Annual also stands in recognition of the significant groundwork laid by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Through targeted technical assistance, legislative harmonisation, and capacity-building initiatives, WIPO has played a foundational role in the advancement of IP frameworks across the Caribbean. Programmes like the establishment of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) and the ongoing efforts of the WIPO Caribbean Office in Trinidad and Tobago underscore a shared vision—one that champions innovation, education, and growth.

This publication aims to complement those efforts by offering a platform that goes beyond headlines. Inside, readers will discover in-depth legal commentary, regional case law updates, expert interviews, and perspectives that highlight both the diversity and commonality of Caribbean IP systems. Each contribution offers a window into the evolving legal, economic, and cultural forces shaping the future of intellectual property in the region.

The Global IP Matrix Issue 21

What makes this edition particularly meaningful is the collaborative spirit with which it was created. We are honoured to feature voices from across the islands—seasoned practitioners, forward-thinking policymakers, and advocates for innovation—each sharing insights that matter. These contributions not only educate and inform but also serve to connect local expertise with a broader, global audience eager to learn more about the Caribbean IP landscape.

To our contributors, thank you for your generous participation. To our readers—whether you're based in the Caribbean or engaging with the region from abroad—we hope this inaugural issue inspires deeper understanding, thoughtful collaboration, and greater inclusion within the global IP ecosystem.

As we continue to connect people, ideas, and jurisdictions, we invite you to explore The Caribbean IP Annual 2025 and join us in this growing movement to elevate the Caribbean’s presence on the world stage.

Here’s to knowledge-sharing, regional empowerment, and a united IP future.
